Capture the look of classic anime backgrounds with concept artist and background painter Kenn Yap (Chroma Moma). In this Session, you’ll learn to combine the texture and character of real brushstrokes with the flexibility of Photoshop. Kenn will show you how to design a space, paint over printed line art, refine your scanned paintings digitally, and add detail using your own hand-painted assets. This workflow lets you balance traditional and digital techniques to suit your strengths, bringing a handmade quality to your backgrounds without needing to be an expert in traditional painting. This Session also includes a free materials guide in the first lesson, showing every tool that Kenn personally recommends!
Kenn is a devotee of classic 80’s and 90’s anime, and he has recently released the first taste of his own anime project, Orbital Drop. This is a fully solo project that he created in his free time over the course of 3 full years. The beautiful trailer was entirely hand-drawn by Kenn, using the techniques taught in this Session. Check out the Orbital Drop trailer below!
A guided path through every stage of the course, broken down into focused lessons you can work through at your own pace.
