Materials and Rendering
Lesson 4 of 5 Mech Design
In this lesson you’ll set up materials and decals, then light and render out your mech to prepare for the final paintover.
Kitbashing Homework
Source a few sets of kitbash elements to add small details to your design. Be careful not to let these new elements drive the feel of the design overall, they should instead be complimenting what you’ve already made.
To help with future projects, Gavin also recommends setting up an asset library where you can continually add kitbash pieces for easy access.
Materials and Decals Homework
Set up materials for your mech, checking your references where needed to inform the look of different parts. Then go through and add decals to give that final bit of flair to the design.
Rendering Homework
Set up lights and cameras, then render out your mech from the front and back. You can experiment with different focal lengths to see which suits your design best.
